I remember taking my bike shortly after using drugs. I was riding fast, too fast, since I wasn't in control, and I collided with a vehicle. I lost consciousness, and the first thing I remember after waking up was asking for water. But in the time between that accident and the moment I woke up, my entire life had changed.
Before, I was someone who enjoyed life, I had a job, a fiancée, and I went bike racing every weekend. After the accident, I lost all of it. My employer had already replaced me. My fiancée left, because I no longer looked the way I used to after facial surgery. People in my neighborhood began mocking me because of it.
When doctors had already given up on me, Muqadass Zindagi Trust stepped in and facilitated my treatment, bringing me back to life. But the accident hadn't just injured my body, losing my fiancée, my job, and the face that had been part of my identity took away my will to keep going. In that darkest period, I struggled deeply and turned to self-harm.
Once again, the Trust stepped in, this time with counseling that helped me find the courage to live again. I've recovered, physically and mentally, but my life will never be quite the same. I'm grateful it's a life I still get to live.
